This project started as a discussion with another artist and good friend about what lies above and below the surfaces in each of our lives. Its a conversation that has now spanned over several years.
It led to contemplating what and who we discard along the way, the mistakes and shame we try to cover up and how we seek to sanitize our lives and our world.
There is much buried in the underneath passages of our "urban" souls. Manhole covers have become symbols for me...they are everwhere and yet often invisible as our gaze remains above ground. These portals have become hallowed ground to me as I choose to look under my own surface.
